Even though most of us have a grasp on the basics, this is for those of you have a few questions and don't feel like searching the forums.
Regarding Money v. Experience.... Choose money. It really sucks to level so fast you don't have the money to gear up or stat up and you get spanked by the quest monsters. Especially so if the quest would have rewarded you with a lovely piece of gear.
Regarding shops ... they refresh daily on their own, and the keepers look funny at night.
Regarding Mushrooms ... You have an 8% chance every quest to get one when unmounted. You have a 5% chance to get one when mounted (any mount).
Mounts ... Do not get anything cheaper than the 30% time reduction mount (tiger or raptor), as it lowers your chance to get mushrooms over all.
Longer or Shorter quests ... Shorter, you can do more, and have more chances for mushrooms. (unless the long quest is more money efficient, gives a lovely piece of gear, or you have a life that you would like to lead while your hero does his thing)
Stats ... In general you want your primary damage stat (int for magi, dex for rogues, and str for fighters) then you want constitution, then you want luck. The other two stats are fine, but only barely worth considering for normal purposes.
This all changes in guild fights, when you want ALL STATS, but especially the ones I said you wanted for normal purposes. Great idea - have a full set of the best potions you see (one per stat) and pump the roids for a guild fight.
Armor - handy, but more important for the guild fights than anything else, and maxes out at different spots for diff. classes. (I am a mage, the max is low, so I never really pay attention to it except to break a near tie in the stat bonus)
Regarding dungeons ... don't try over and over and over and hope you get lucky to drop the monster, since the possible epic gear is dropped according to the lower level of you or the monster. Just be patient and wait til you are near the thing's level (you will see it when you fight it, and the first time you fight something, odds are it will spank you, make you call it momma, and send you home crying like a small possum). You will slowly progress through multiple dungeons at the same time.
Arena ... fight early, fight often, fight BROKE. The arena pairs you against people who have similar records, so fighting lower level means a bit better hance to win, but not extreme. The money exchanged depends on how much the person who loses has (10% off the top). So if you are broke, you can only lose honor. Arena uses the same set up as quest fighting, not guild fighting, so don't assume you can rock someone in a guild fight that you rocked in arena (though it is a decent indicator).
If you are being griefed by a high level and honor jerk, we have a forum for that.
City guard ... Excellent way to make money. And to have a life outside this game yet still progress and feel like you are playing.
Typical day for a highly active player. 10 hours guard duty over night, get the money and see if any new gear in the shops, if not, spend money on stats, donate the change to the guild. Guard duty while you are dealing with daily life, stat up and donate change. Then run arenas and quests and dungeons til you are out of thirst for adventure. Rinse, repeat. Since the time is real time, you can do other stuff while you run quests, specially the long ones. Have as little gold as possible while you are not really playing in case you get attacked arena style.
Well, I think that is the basics. If anyone disagrees, I can amend this. I didn't get into the serious nitty gritty, but I think it covers the basics.
